PALATKA, Fla., Feb. 18, 2010 -- Third- through fifth-grade students at Audubon Park Elementary School in Orlando and their parents are invited to "Splash into Science Night," a hands-on, interactive family event focusing on the importance of Florida's water resources.
Splash into Science Night, scheduled for March 2, is an activity sponsored by the St. Johns River Water Management District's Watershed Action Volunteer (WAV) Program, the Audubon Park Science Lab and the Orange County Environmental Protection Division.
Students will learn where drinking water comes from, see how rainfall causes pollution to run off the land and conduct water experiments. Other activities include making water cycle wristbands, fishing for river trash, creating an edible aquifer and other crafts and games. The Back to Nature Wildlife Refuge will cap off the evening of learning with a wildlife presentation.
Families are encouraged to join students at the event. Activities will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Audubon Park Elementary, located at 1750 Common Way Road in Orlando.
