Plantation Oaks Elementary to host Science Night on Oct. 13

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Oct. 9, 2009 - Students at Plantation Oaks Elementary School and their parents are invited to "Splash into Science Night," a hands-on, interactive family event focusing on the importance of Florida's water resources.

Splash into Science Night, scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 13, is an activity sponsored by the St. Johns River Water Management District's Watershed Action Volunteer (WAV) Program and Clay County.

During the two-hour event, students will learn about the water cycle, how water moves through the aquifer, and about water conservation through a variety of crafts and games. The evening's activities include interacting with water animals from the Jacksonville Zoo, playing water games, conducting water experiments, and making water cycle wristbands, an "edible aquifer" and "fish print" T-shirts.

While participating in these fun activities, students will learn about their drinking water supply, which comes from the Floridan aquifer, and how to protect the watershed in which they live.

Families are encouraged to join students at the event, which will begin at 6 p.m. at the school cafeteria.

Plantation Oaks Elementary, Clay County's newest school, is located at 4150 Plantation Oaks Blvd. in Orange Park, west of Brannen Field-Chaffee Road.
