Projects and Land Committee to meet in Bunnell

PALATKA, Fla., Aug. 29, 2008 — The St. Johns River Water Management District Governing Board Projects and Land Committee will meet Sept. 4 in Bunnell for an overview of District initiatives in Flagler County.

Palm Coast City Manager Jim Landon will give a presentation on the Coquina Coast Seawater Desalination Project. As part of an effort to address future water demands in the greater Flagler County area — a region known as the Coquina Coast — the District is partnering with several county and local governments to further investigate and prepare preliminary design documents for a desalination facility in Flagler County.

Landon will also give a presentation on a proposal to partner with the District and Flagler County at the District’s Graham Swamp Conservation Area to enhance recreational opportunities there. Graham Swamp Conservation Area is a 3,084-acre public property in eastern Flagler County that features more than 2,500 acres of hardwood swamp.

The Projects and Land Committee members are District Governing Board members Ann Moore of Bunnell, Herky Huffman of Enterprise, Leonard Wood of Fernandina Beach and Arlen Jumper of Fort McCoy.

There will be an opportunity for public comment at the end of the meeting. The 6 p.m. meeting will be held at on the first floor of Building 2 at the Flagler County Government Center, 1769 E. Moody Blvd., Bunnell.
