PALATKA, Fla., Sept. 24, 2007 — Kindergarten through fifth-grade students and their parents at the Fort McCoy School in Marion County are invited to “Splash into Science Night,” a hands-on, interactive family event focusing on the importance of Florida’s water resources.
Splash into Science Night, scheduled for Oct. 4 is an activity sponsored by the St. Johns River Water Management District’s Watershed Action Volunteer (WAV) Program, Marion County, the city of Ocala, Marion County Public Schools and BB&T.
Students will conduct water experiments, learn where drinking water originates and see how to reduce pollution caused by stormwater runoff. Other activities include making a fish print T-shirt (please bring your own T-shirt and hanger), making an edible aquifer, fishing for river trash, constructing water cycle wristbands and other fun activities.
Families are encouraged to join students at the event, which will begin with dinner at 6 p.m. in the Fort McCoy School Cafeteria, located at 16160 N.E. U.S. Highway 315 in Fort McCoy. Activities will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.
