PALATKA, Fla., March 13, 2007 — The St. Johns River Water Management District’s Governing Board approved a proclamation today declaring April as Water Conservation Month.
April has been formally recognized as Water Conservation Month in Florida for the past nine years. In 2006, 113 governments and entities adopted proclamations. This year, more proclamations are expected. Florida is the only state in the country to designate a month promoting water conservation.
“The District’s support of Water Conservation Month serves as a way to emphasize the importance of conservation,” said David Graham, chairman of the District’s Governing Board. “Preserving our water resources is a responsibility we all share. This designation helps to heighten awareness of conservation and encourages water users to take appropriate actions to conserve.”
The efficient use of water inside and outside the home can save thousands of gallons of water per month. Saving water is easy when you follow a few simple tips. Inside the home, fix leaks and replace old water-guzzling plumbing fixtures with newer water-saving ones. Outside the home, water lawns and landscapes no more than two days a week, before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m.
