Moss Bluff Lock to be closed for repairs Nov. 6-Feb. 12
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla., Oct. 27, 2006 — The Moss BluffLock and Dam will be closed beginning Monday, Nov. 6, and continuing throughFeb. 12, 2007, while work crews contracted by the St. Johns River Water ManagementDistrict upgrade the electrical systems of the lock and bring it to full operatingcapability.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the District are partnersin maintaining the Ocklawaha River Basin and the Moss Bluff Lock. The lock,built in 1968, is designed to assist in the passage of fishing boats and watercraftsalong the Ocklawaha River in Marion County. Electrical repairs and upgradesare required to ensure the lock provides reliable and dependable service tothe public and for District maintenance activities. The estimated cost of therepairs is $462,577.
