Northern recreation meeting to be in Gainesville

PALATKA, Fla., Sept. 19, 2005 — The public is invited to participate inthe St. Johns River Water Management District’s northern region RecreationalPublic Meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

The meeting will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Austin Cary Memorial StateForest Conference Room, 10625 N.E. Waldo Road, Gainesville.

District staff members will provide updates on the Newnans Lake ConservationArea, as well as land management and land acquisition efforts to date. Membersof the public will have an opportunity to comment on recreational issues involvingDistrict lands.

The District acquires lands to provide flood protection, protect water supplies,restore and preserve water bodies, maintain wildlife habitats and provide compatiblerecreational opportunities for the public.

Meeting attendees generally include representatives from state and localgovernment and recreational user groups. They offer recommendations on publicuse issues related to District land in Alachua, Baker, Clay, Duval, Flagler,Marion, Nassau, Putnam and St. Johns counties.
