PALATKA, Fla., Aug.9, 2004 — U.S. Rep. David Weldon is scheduled to present a $1.5 millioncheck for the Taylor Creek Reservoir Expansion Project on Aug.11. Thepresentation will take place at 9 a.m. at the city of Cocoa’s Claude H. Dyal water treatment plant, 28400 StateRoad 520. The St. Johns River Water Management District will accept thecheck on behalf of the project’s potential partners. Rep. Weldonhelped to secure the federal funding through the State and Tribal AssistanceGrants Program.
The event will includecomments from Rep. Weldon; Mike Slayton, the District’s deputyexecutive director; and Judy Parrish, mayor of Cocoa. Members of themedia are invited to attend the check presentation as well as the projectmeeting that follows.
The Taylor Creek Reservoir Expansion Project is a cooperative effortamong the District and water supply utilities to develop an additional25 million gallons of water per day from the reservoir to help meet futurewater supply needs in the area.
