PALATKA, Fla., Sept. 15, 2003 — Dave Fisk has formally taken on thejob of assistant executive director of the St. Johns River Water ManagementDistrict, making him only the second person in the District’s historyto hold the title.
Fisk joined the District in February 2002 as deputy executive directorand was named assistant executive director in June 2003. He officiallyassumed the title on Sept. 5, upon the retirement of longtime Districtassistant executive director John Wehle.
“Dave has worked in water management for more than 28 years, givinghim the extensive knowledge and experience we need to help manage theDistrict’s daily business,” says District Executive Director Kirby Green.“Dave’s background has given him broad experience in water resource regulations,projects and project management, and budgets and administration. I’mfortunate to have a person of this caliber helping me with the District’sday-to-day operations.”
As the assistant executive director, Fisk is responsible for the directionof staff, budget and other functions of the District, including wateruse and wetland permitting, water resources research, environmental restoration,planning, land acquisition, administration, operations, and legislativeand interagency coordination.
Prior to joining the St. Johns District, Fisk was assistant executivedirector of the Suwannee River Water Management District, where he workedfor 27 years. His duties included acting as a liaison between state andfederal governmental bodies and the Suwannee District.
Fisk graduated from the University of Florida in 1975 with a Bachelorof Science degree in geology. He is a registered professional geologistin Florida, with professional expertise in hydrogeology. He also hasan extensive agricultural background of cattle ranching and tree farming.
A native of Florida, Fisk lives on a small cattle farm in Marion Countywith his wife and two sons.
