PALATKA, Fla., Aug. 29, 2002 — The St. Johns River Water Management District is offeringa five-week environmental and waterwise landscaping course through theContinuing and Community Education Program at Santa Fe Community College(SFCC) beginning Wednesday, Oct. 2.
The class will covertopics such as land stewardship, Florida habitat, Florida-friendly andnative plants, restoration techniques, organic pest management, and landmanagement. The course fee is $30.
Maria Minno, localnaturalist and co-author of "Florida Butterfly Gardening,” willteach the class how to cultivate a lush, low-maintenance landscape thatconserves water, saves money and protects the environment.
Each participantwill receive a copy of the District’s "Waterwise Florida Landscapes"guide, as well as other materials.
Classes will meetat Westwood Middle School, 3215 N.W. 15th Ave., in Gainesville from 6to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays through Oct. 30.
Phone registrationwill be held Sept. 3—18 by calling SFCC at (352) 395-5193. Walk-ins mayregister the first night of class, Oct. 2.
