VERO BEACH, Fla., June 17, 2002 — The public is invited to participate in the semiannualmeeting of the St. Johns River Water Management District’s southern regionRecreation Advisory Council.
The meeting is Thursday,June 20, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Indian River County GovernmentBuilding Conference Room, 1810 25th St., Vero Beach.
District staff memberswill provide updates on recreation, and management and acquisition activitiesin the Upper Basin of the St. Johns River. The public will have the opportunityto comment on recreational issues involving District lands.
The District acquireslands to provide flood protection, protect water supplies, restore andpreserve water bodies, maintain wildlife habitats and provide compatiblerecreational opportunities to the public.
The southern regioncouncil, comprised of representatives from state and local governmentand recreational user groups, offers recommendations on public use issuesrelated to District land in Indian River, Brevard and Osceola counties.
