CORPS, DISTRICT TO HOLD WORKSHOPS ON
LAGOON NORTH RESTORATION FEASIBILITY STUDY

PALM BAY, Fla., Sept. 14, 2001 — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the St. JohnsRiver Water Management District will hold public information workshopson the upcoming Indian River Lagoon North Restoration Feasibility Study.

The workshops willbe held as follows:

  • Sept. 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Indian River County Administration Building, County Commission Chambers, 1st floor, 1840 25th Street, Vero Beach, Fla.
  • Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Brevard County Government Center, Space Coast Room, Building C, 2nd floor, 2725 Judge Fran Jamieson Way, Viera, Fla.
  • Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the Volusia County Library, 103 Indian River Boulevard, Edgewater, Fla.

The study area extendsfrom Ponce De Leon Inlet in Volusia County, through Brevard and IndianRiver counties, south to Fort Pierce Inlet in St. Lucie County, and includesthe Mosquito Lagoon and Banana River Lagoon.

Issues under considerationfor this study include improving habitat, circulation and water quality;developing a sediment strategy; better control of stormwater runoff; removalof exotic vegetation; and increasing recreational opportunities. The purposeof the workshops is to discuss problems, opportunities and goals of thestudy and to seek public input on the study scope and schedule.
