PUBLIC MEETING ON DOCTORS LAKE TO BE HELD SEPT. 25
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 13, 2001 — The St. Johns River Water Management District will holda public meeting on Sept. 25 to present the findings of a recent studyto improve water quality in Doctors Lake.
The meeting willbe held at 7 p.m. at R.M. Paterson Elementary School, 5400 Pine Ave.,on Fleming Island.
In September 2000,the District contracted Taylor Engineering Inc. of Jacksonville to studywater quality problems at Doctors Lake and to identify alternatives torestore the water body. The engineering firm’s report was recently completed,and its findings will be presented to interested residents at the meeting.
Doctors Lake, locatedsouth of Orange Park along U.S. 17 in Clay County, has experienced continuingwater quality problems caused mainly by poor circulation and increasedamount of nutrients flowing into the lake from urban runoff. These problemshave resulted in algal blooms, fish kills and sedimentation.
